Sales Funnels - Your Pathway to Business Success

Sales funnels are the core of any sales process. They help your team prioritize the
right activities to close sales quickly and efficiently. And if done well, they support
long-term revenue growth for your business.
The first step in building a sales funnel is getting your marketing and sales teams on
the same page. That means understanding your ideal target customer, their goals
and needs, as well as how your products or services meet those needs. This can be
accomplished through thorough research and analysis of your existing data.

Once you have a clear vision of your ideal customer, you need to create content that
speaks to those needs. This can be done through a variety of marketing channels
such as social media, SEO, email newsletters and targeted advertising. The end goal
is to capture your audience’s attention with relevant, educational content that
assures them their needs will be addressed and draws them deeper into the funnel.

As your audience moves deeper into the sales funnel, they’ll become aware of their
pain points and begin looking for solutions to those problems. This stage is known as
the top of the funnel (TOFU). Identifying your prospects’ challenges, as well as the
solutions you offer to address them, allows you to target them with online ads,
content marketing and cold calls that provide real value to their problems.

Those prospects that respond to your top-of-funnel efforts will move to the middle of
the sales funnel (MOFU). Here, you can educate them further about their challenges
and your solutions. This can be done through a variety a sales-driven and lead
generation initiatives such as product demos, webinars, free trials and content
upgrades.

When your prospects move to the decision phase of the sales funnel, they’re ready
to purchase. This is a critical point when you can either lose the sale to another
competitor or gain it by clearly outlining your key differentiators. This can be
achieved by demonstrating how your solution addresses the prospect’s specific pain
points and how you’re unique in the marketplace.

Once your customers have made a purchase, you’ll need to cultivate their loyalty
and encourage them to refer new business to you. This is a crucial stage that can be
achieved through a variety of engagement initiatives including email, video chat and
even personalized phone calls. Having the right CRM, with real-time data and
automation features, is central to this process and can save your reps time spent on
manual tasks so they can focus on selling and nurturing. Using this type of
technology also streamlines the funnel’s follow-up process, which can be an
important element in moving leads over the finish line and converting them into
customers.
